What is the CTET Exam?
The full form of CTET is Central Teacher Eligibility Test. CTET exam invites candidates from various fields to enter the field of teaching as a profession. CTET exam is commenced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). It is one of the entrance exams that is organized every consecutive year in order to find suitable candidates for teaching students belonging to Class 1 to Class 8 in various reputed schools and institutions like Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).

The CTET  Exam is conducted in two sessions Paper 1 and Paper 2. Candidates who want to teach Classes from 1 to 5 have to appear for CTET Paper 1 and candidates who want to teach from Classes 6 to 8 have to appear for Paper 2. Candidates who want to teach Classes from 1 to 8 have to appear for both the papers i.e., Paper 1 and Paper 2.

CTET Notification

CTET  Exam is conducted in the month of December , while the application form will be released in the month of July . The official notification for the exam will be released soon.

Considering the current COVID-19 pandemic situation, there may be some delays and changes in the CTET Examination. However, the application forms will be available only online.

Eligibility

Only the candidates who have permanent citizenship in India can apply. The subjects of Bhutan and Nepal are also eligible for the exam. To apply for the CTET Exam , candidates need to fulfill the eligibility criteria which are discussed below:

CTET Eligibility: Age Limit

The candidates must be at least 17 years of age to be eligible for CTET. There is no upper age limit to apply for CTET. A candidate can take the exam as many times as he/she wants.

CTET Educational Qualification

Following are the educational qualifications mentioned in NCTE notice dated October 13, 2021.

  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)

OR

Post-Graduation with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade and three-year integrated B.Ed-M.Ed.

  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)

OR

Post-Graduation with a minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade and three-year integrated B.Ed-M.Ed

The CTET eligibility criteria notice also contains the following clause- “who has acquired the qualification of three-year integrated B.Ed- M.Ed from any National Council for Teacher Education recognised institution shall be considered for appointment as a teacher in classed I to V: Provided that the person so appointed as a teacher shall mandatorily undergo a six-month Bridge Course in Elementary Education recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education, within two years of such appointment as the primary teacher.”

Along with these, the minimum qualifications laid down in the recruitment rules of the teacher by the concerned government where the school is situated or the same on Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangthan or Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti also need to be fulfilled.

CTET Education Qualification For Class I-V (Primary Stage):

The education qualification for both primary and elementary stages are mentioned in the below points:

  • The candidate must have completed their senior secondary with a minimum of 50% marks and have passed or appeared for the final year of 2-years of Diploma in Elementary Education, or
  • Senior Secondary with at least 45% marks & passed or appearing for the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education in accordance with the NCTE regulations, 2002, or
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing for the final year of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B. El. Ed.), or
  • Senior Secondary with 50% marks & passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education), or
  • Graduation and Passed or appearing for the final year of two years of Diploma in Elementary Education

CTET Educational Qualification For Class VI-VIII (Elementary Stage):

  • Graduation and Passed or Appearing for the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education, or
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and Passed or appearing for the 1-year Bachelor in Education (B. Ed), or
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks and Passed or appearing for the 1-year Bachelor in Education (B. Ed), in accordance with the NCTE regulations, or
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and Passed or appearing for the final year of 4-year B.A./ B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/ B.Sc.Ed, or
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and Passed or appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)
Application Form

To start the career of the aspirants as govt. teacher, they need to go for the CTET apply online process for completing the registration process first. The application form will be available on the official website. Candidates must produce their own Email address and must have a Personal Phone number, which will be required for registration and sending alert messages throughout the process.

The candidate must follow the steps given below, in order to fill up the application form:

  • Step 1: Visit the official website of the CTET exam i.e., https://ctet.nic.in
  • Step 2: Now start filling in the required details
  • Step 3: Upload the scanned Photographs and Signature
  • Step 4: Pay the registration fees

Admit Card

Admit card is a mandatory document for every candidate to appear for the CTET Exam . The admit card for every candidate will be available on the official website for downloading, just before the exam weeks.

Important Information for CTET  Admit Card:

  • The candidates are urged to check for any discrepancy in the admit card and if found any, they should inform the authorities at CTET
  • The candidates must appear for the exam at the centre assigned on the CTET admit card.
  • The candidates must compulsorily carry the correct admit card at the time of the exam.

The exam pattern of CTET  consists of objective-type questions and the duration of the exam will be 2 hours 30 minutes. The details of the exam pattern of CTET Paper 1 and Paper 2 are given below:

Result

The CTET  results will be declared on its official website i.e https://ctet.nic.in. The results for the Central Teacher eligibility test will be declared approximately 6 weeks after the conduction of the exam.

  • Candidates who score more than 60% are considered as ‘qualified’
  • The CTET result  will be available offline for the candidates via post.
  • The re-checking of the Exam Answer sheets is not allowed.
  • If any of the information provided by the candidate is inaccurate or fake, then the result will be cancelled in this case.
  • In case of any malpractices during the exam, the candidate will be disqualified.
Expected Cutoff

The candidates who get a minimum 60% score in the CTET Exam are qualified for acquiring a teaching job in Government Schools. The Certification is valid for a lifetime from the day of the release of the results.

The CTET expected cutoff score for the candidates is as follows:

Selection Process

The selection of CTET  will be done on the basis of performance in the CTET exam. In the below points, the details of the selection procedure of CTET is given:

  • The selection of the candidate is completely based on their performance in the CTET examination.
  • In order to get shortlisted in any of the institutions, as a teacher, the candidate must have scored at least 60% in the CTET.
  • Qualifying the examination does not provide jobs to the candidate. The Candidate must keep in mind that they have to apply for the job in various schools.
  • The CTET certification is valid for 7 years, so the candidate can apply anytime when the certificate is valid.
  • The candidates who have not qualified for the exam can give as many attempts as they want.
Salary

The validity period for the CTET qualification certificate is going to be seven years. The candidate can take the CTET Certificate number of times and there is no restriction.

  • The CTET net salary offered to the qualified candidates is in the range of Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 45,000, which includes the House Rent Allowance (HRA).
  • Candidates who have completed their B.Ed. and D.Ed. degrees from around the country have to attempt for the CTET Exam in order to gain a stable job as a teacher in any of the government schools. The salary of these teachers is around Rs. 35,000 per month and it increases as and when they get permanent.
  • The candidates are eligible for teaching throughout the country.

As per the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the CTET Exam will be conducted.

There may be some changes in the conduct of the examination. A detailed assessment framework for the CTET exam will be released soon by the Central Board of Secondary Education.
